Ben Haggard’s performance of “Sing Me Back Home” evokes the spirit of The Hag once more.

Ben Haggard, Merle Haggard’s youngest son has revived the chart-topping single “Sing Me Back Home” from 1967 and it was incredible.

Ben Haggard’s Version

“Sing Me Back Home” was written and recorded by Merle Haggard and The Strangers as the first single and title track of his same-titled album in 1967.

Their third chart-topper, spending two weeks at number one during its 17-week run, earned them a significant milestone. Rolling Stone even featured it in their compilation of the “40 Saddest Country Songs of All Time”. Since then, numerous artists, such as The Everly Brothers, Alabama, and Don Williams, have covered it. Notably, his youngest son, Ben Haggard, also paid tribute to his father through his rendition.

Ben debuted the song in 2014 on his album “Working Man’s Poet: A Tribute to Merle Haggard,” just two years before Merle’s passing.

Fans commented how much Ben sounds like his father. If you close your eyes while you hit the play button below and imagine Merle, you’ll see it. Merle’s singing comes through Ben, from the style and the tone all the way to the delivery. It’s not an exact copy though, Ben includes his own unique sound.

Seven years after recording, he performed it live at the Bob Wills Fiddle Festival in Greenville, Texas. Accompanied by his brother Noel on guitar, alongside guitar virtuoso James Mitchell. On stage, he was joined by Scott Joss on fiddle and Joe Reed on bass. Though brief, the performance was undeniably impressive.
