Let’s dive in!

Sometimes, you meet a person at a time in your life where romance is the farthest thing from your mind. But then, before you know it, an undeniable bond has blossomed organically.

That’s exactly what happened when work brought Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani together. It was back in 2015 when they were both struggling in their personal lives and experiencing major heartbreak. They became friends and helped each other through the rough period. And soon enough, things began to change. Rather than questioning the unusual circumstances and imperfect timing, they rolled with the punches.

Where did it all start?

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton shocked the world when they started dating in 2015 but they surely are a darling couple. The lovebirds, who claim they saved one another, share an enviable fairytale romance, but things were much complicated for them before they hit it off. A couple that makes it through hard times together, stays together. Such is the case of Stefani and Blake, who were going through pretty tough times when they met after Gwen joined Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, and Blake as a coach on “The Voice.”

In July 2015, the country star announced he had separated with then-wife Miranda Lambert. “We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends, and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter,” the duo shared.

Soon after Blake and Miranda were broken up, Gwen and her husband Gavin Rossdale released a statement declaring they have ended their marriage. “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” the statement read.

The big proposal

We all know now where this is going: Shamelessly flirting on national television. Endless streams of PDA flooding social feeds. And forever frenemy Adam Levine being slowly replaced by Stefani as the most important person in Shelton’s life. We’ve had a plum front-row seat watching these two fall in love. Their romance is one for the history books scratch that social media age.

“If you had told me that that’s who I’m gonna end up with, I would have thought you were crazy. But she became my closest ally,” Shelton told Rolling Stone about Stefani in a June 2016 interview. And today, she’s not just his closest ally, but also, his wife-to-be. On October 27, they shared the happy announcement on Instagram and sealed it with a kiss.

April 2014: Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani begin working together.

Earlier on Stefani joined Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, and Blake Shelton as a judge on the NBC reality show in the spring of 2014. Both Shelton and Stefani were hitched at the time, however. So we’re assuming their encounters were strictly professional at this point.

Behind the scenes, Blake and Gwen’s friendship soon blossomed into a romance and by November 2015, they admitted they were indeed a couple. Their newfound happiness sent each artist into the recording studio. Gwen’s album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like dropped March 2016 and included a song about Blake. In “Make Me Like You,” she described herself as “broken but fine” before falling in love again. Two months later, Blake released his tenth studio album, If I’m Honest, which included a hit duet with Gwen, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.”

More songs for each others

The couple continued to inspire each other musically, collaborating on a cozy holiday duet,“You Make It Feel Like Christmas,” for Gwen’s 2017 album of the same name. And it was clear that Blake and Gwen were on the brain when he recorded his eleventh studio album, Texoma Shore. The 2017 album featured a steamy love song about his girlfriend, “Turnin’ Me On,” as well as a hit ode to domestic bliss, “I’ll Name the Dogs”, which got fans talking about the couple’s home life and future together.

Seeking personal happiness is not selfish

It wasn’t easy, but both Shelton and Stefani realized that sacrificing personal happiness for the sake of a relationship was not sustainable. Stefani opened up about her fear of failure and the embarrassment she felt before making one of the toughest decisions of her life.

Embrace your differences

In addition to helping build each other up when they were at their lowest, Shelton and Stefani were also able to build a strong connection by embracing their differences. As Shelton himself acknowledged, they “could not be, on paper, any more different.”

They Made Their Relationship Red Carpet Official in 2016

There’s no place better than a Vanity Fair Oscars after-party to let the whole world know that you’re more than friends. Stefani and Blake Shelton were glowing on the carpet hand in hand. She was wearing a fiery sheer Yanina Couture with satin overlays in all the right places. The country star, of course, looked adorable in jeans and cowboy boots.

Shelton Is a ‘Great’ Extra Dad To Stefani’s Boys

Over the last few years, Shelton has also become a second father figure to Stefani’s sons she shares with ex-husband Rossdale: Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo. Shelton has a large part in raising the boys over the last few years. The world got glimpses of the blended family life during the premiere of UglyDolls, an animated tale that stars the voices of Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and Nick Jonas, in 2019. Shelton and Stefani graced the red carpet with the three boys.

They Bought First Home Together

The couple reportedly just purchased their first home together. Shelton and Stefani purchased a $13.2 million home in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. The 13,000 sq. ft. home has three floors and sits on a very private 1.6-acre lot. The gated property also boasts several impressive amenities, including a state-of-the-art movie theater, a four-car garage, and a large outdoor pool and spa. It also has a cabana with an outdoor kitchen as well as its own wet bar. The news of the couple’s real estate venture comes less than a year after Gwen Stefani sold her Beverly Hills hilltop mansion, which she had previously lived in with then-husband Gavin Rossdale.

Believe It Or Not, Stefani Gets Nervous To Sing In Front Of Shelton

When they were first getting to know one another, Gwen Stefani revealed that she “think I sweated through my entire clothes trying to sing while he played the guitar.” It all happened when they were about to practice the first song they wrote together, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” in 2016.

Stefani said that:

“We wrote this song, and we weren’t even in the same song when we wrote it. He sent me a verse, and then I sent him back on my phone the answer to it in the song. That was definitely exciting. I guess more exciting than nerves”.

But that’s no longer the case today. The couple already has several duets, including their recently released hit, “Nobody But You.”

When it comes to coaching The Voice, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton seem to be each other’s kryptonite. Fellow coaches, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, revealed to PEOPLE what it’s been like to work together with the couple.

Are We Going To Hear Some Wedding Bells Soon?

After four years of being together, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have continuously been followed by rumors of a secret engagement or wedding. But multiple sources told PEOPLE that the couple is ready to take the next step. We’re definitely going to patiently wait for anything substantial. For now, the hottest couple in the music industry is still going strong after four years together, and it seems like they’re in it for the long haul.

The importance of keeping an open mind

Things don’t always happen the way you expect them to, and that’s totally fine. Just because an outcome is different from the one you had envisioned or hoped for, it doesn’t mean that the experience attached to it was a failure. Rather, it should be treated as an opportunity to grow and discover a strength you might not even have known you had. The strength that can be channeled into reaching for the stars and searching for your new happiness.

We can only do that if we keep an open mind going forward, instead of worrying about people’s perceptions of us.
