It’s been an anxiety-inducing week for Willie Nelson fans, but after a string of show cancellations, it seems that the legend is finally on the mend.
Concerns arose about the 91-year-old’s health last week when he missed several appearances during the initial stage of his Outlaw Music Festival Tour due to an unspecified illness.
“We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days,” his camp said in a statement. “He is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week.”
Getting clearance from his doctors took longer than anticipated, causing Nelson to miss a total of five shows across Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and upstate New York.
Then, over the weekend, there was finally some good news.
“Willie Nelson has been cleared by his doctors to go back on the road again,” a June 28 statement shared to his social media accounts announced. “He will resume performing on the Outlaw Tour next week.”
The upcoming tour will make its next stop in Mansfield, Massachusetts on July 2nd, and then move on to Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic in Camden, New Jersey on July 4th.
Despite his age, Nelson is resolute in his decision not to retire from touring – that is, if he has any say in the matter.
“I have everything I need on the [tour] bus,” Nelson told AARP last year. “I never have to go into a hotel room anywhere. It’s not that bad.”
“Working is really good for me,” he added.
We can’t wait to see you back on stage soon, Willie!
